In Deep WordPress Development Mode

So I am busy doing all the necessary configurations for the wordpress multisite I am working on, found out how to map virtual hosts (tutorial coming soon).

But now I have to create the wordpress theme and sortout a problem with the multisite install.

##Problem
When I finish installing wordpress and go into multisite installation
it asks to go subdomains / subdirectory, when I use the subdirectory method I can no longer log back into wordpress. (if you can help drop a comment)

The project should be out of development stage by the end of this week and start the final leg (publishing) and by Friday, I will be able to give you a link to the most stressful yet awesome project I have done

Big Changes

Now the biggest change of all the changes is to the blog name from (DDMBOSS) to (DDMBOSS Designs), now everyone would usually wonder what it DDMBOSS, well now to clarify it, I added the Designs. Now other than that it also allows me to hashtag everything I create on Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook and Google +, which is sweet.

Some big changes are in store for this rather small but growing blog. As some of you would have noticed, the addition of an Inspiration Category. Now you’re like, that’s pretty straight forward and simple. The inspiration category, would be written up on Fridays nights / Saturday Morning (according to your timezone)

Next big thing, Movie Reviews are BACK!…, now they won’t be your regular movie reviews from before, where I posted a short summary of the movie plot (I am not doing that shit again), this time I will be posting my thoughts on the movie (how I felt, the watching experience, whether I liked it or not). That is scheduled for Saturdays.

Another Big Thing that is also added in Crafts / DIY, now this is in the tutorials category and I would look forward to a lot of these tutorials and trying a few myself (if time permits)

Now this week is packed up so I would have to offload something, now currently I have the tutorials category (no I am not going to remove the entire category), and I realized that a lot of these tutorials, are very similar in nature, most of the time the difference is what the user is creating and how it was created. Long story short Print Media tutorials is no more with us, and has been absorbed by the design category.

A few more changes in the tutorial section still, a few of the menu items have been renamed, to clarify their roles better, so their old links may work.

Now that is it for all the changes, I am also doing a promotional campaign for the beginning of July to the end of August, but you have to stay tuned to know what it will be.

Computing Tips and Tricks – Windows Shortcuts

I realized since the launch of Windows 8, a lot of desktop users have hated the new look, and I personally aren’t a big fan of it, but here are some shortcuts that I found that could help out with everyday tasks. Source: Computerhope.com

General Windows keyboard shortcuts

Alt + Tab

Switch between open applications in all versions of Windows. Reverse the direction by pressing Alt + Shift + Tab at the same time.

Ctrl + Tab

Switches between program groups, tabs, or document windows in applications that support this feature. Reverse the direction by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Tab at the same time.

Alt + double-click

Display the properties of the object you double-click on in Windows 95 and later. For example, doing this on a file would display its properties.

Alt + Print Screen

Create a screen shot only for the active program window in all versions of Windows. For example, if you opened the calculator and did this only the calculator window would be created as a screen shot. If just the Print Screen key is pressed the whole screen will be made into a screen shot.

Ctrl + Alt + Del

Open the Windows option screen for locking computer, switching user, Task Manager, etc. in later versions of Windows. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del multiple times will reboot the computer.

Ctrl + Shift + Esc

Immediately bring up the Windows Task Manager in Windows 2000 and later.

Ctrl + Esc

Open the Windows Start menu in most versions of Windows. In Windows 8 this will open the Start screen and in Windows 3.x this would bring up the Task Manager.

Alt + Esc

Switch between open applications on Taskbar in Windows 95 and later.

Alt + Space bar

Drops down the window control menu for the currently open Windows program in Windows 95 and later.

Alt + Enter

Opens properties window of selected icon or program in Windows 95 and later.

Alt + Space bar

Open the control menu for the current window open in all versions of Windows.

Shift + Del

Will delete any file or other object without throwing it into the Recycle Bin in Windows 95 and later.

Hold down the Shift key

When putting in an audio CD or other CD that uses Autoplay, holding down the Shift key will prevent that CD from playing.

Windows function key shortcuts

Below is a listing of keyboard shortcuts that use the keyboard function keys.

F1

Activates help for current open application. If you’re at the Windows Desktop, this will activate the help for Windows.

F2

Renames a highlighted icon, file, or folder in all versions of Windows.

F3

Starts find or search when at the Windows Desktop in all versions of Windows.

F4

In Windows 95 and later this opens the drive selection or address bar when browsing files in Windows Explorer.

  • Pressing Alt + F4 closes the current open program window without a prompt in all versions of Windows.
  • Pressing Ctrl + F4 closes the open window within the current active window in Microsoft Windows. This will only work in programs that support multiple windows or tabs in the same program window.

F6

While in Windows Explorer, this will move the cursor to different Windows Explorer pane or in Windows 7 browse available drives.

F8

Pressing F8 over and over as the computer is booting will start the computer in Safe Mode.

F10

Activates the File menu bar in all versions of Windows.

  • Simulates a right-click on selected item. This is useful if right-click is difficult or impossible using the mouse.

Windows keyboard key shortcuts

Below is a listing of Windows keys that can be used on computers running a Microsoft Windows 95 or later and using a keyboard with a Windows key. In the below list of shortcuts, the Windows key is represented by “WINKEY” and because not all these shortcuts will work in all versions of Windows we’ve mentioned what versions of Windows support each Windows key shortcut key.

Audio Production Tutorials – Learning To Play A Reggae Riddim On The Guitar

Now out of everything in this world I think music has to be the one thing I love more than anything, with the exception of God, but it would come as no surprise that I would recommend learning to play an instrument if you are serious about Audio Production. Learning an instrument gives you the basics and all that is left is mastering the DAW.

3D and Animation Tutorials – Displacement, Deformation, Modeling, Texturing and Rendering

MY first day back at blogging, while you may realize the schedule is now way, way off from my regular time, I think I prefer blogging this late / early, as the environment is quiet and you get to think. These tutorials are based for cinema 4d, the first is definitely advanced but the second is more of a beginner’s guide.

Week 4 of Attachment

The final week and I’m nearly finished after this week, WordPress development and then It’s 100% done, design done and HTML coding & styling done.

Sunday

I got back from church and felt the weird desire to work on the site, the stereo was on and blasting loud (around 50 – 60%) which made you feel the bass in the beat.

For some strange reason it seemed as if everything was suddenly flowing, I decided to work on the homepage, and fixed the grid layout and implemented and styled the slider.

Then I tackled a bit of the single pages and got the full-width pages to display correctly and did a bit of work on the comments section

Day 1

It was back to school again today, I finished up a bit of styling on the slider and the homepage and checked it off as completed, the next task was to complete the post and category pages and the comments section

We left early to meet with the company to showcase what we had and get feedback and any suggestions for changes. It was a quick meeting and we also talked a bit about the hosting and website set up.

Day 2

I made a few edits to the slider as the thumbnail controls were causing some scaling problems on smaller screens, I fixed it and then relaxed for the rest of the day, and played a bit of Halo.

Day 3

I stayed home today and relaxed for a bit, I did a bit of work on the comments and got them aligned properly, I also added in the social buttons and worked on the footer area

I left the sidebar area alone as for some strange reason it was just sticking to the far left of the page.

Day 4

I relaxed for most of the day, and listened to some music, before I jumped into Halo and started killing some aliens, I had gotten stuck at a level and restarted it and was now owning like no ones business. After a couple of hours had passed I decided to take a look at the post pages again to try to see what the problem was.

Instead of using Dreamweaver I used Notepad++ to check the code and found that I had a lot of extra closing divs and one of them had closed the body container early up and now the side bar was just floating by itself. I quickly changed it and adjusted the sizes so that all the elements were properly aligned and spaced.

Day 5

I got up pretty early as I had the intention to head down to school to meetup with the rest of the group, unfortunately I got held up and never got there until it was close to 11. When I got there no one was there so I went back home.

I made a few changes to the finished design, I added two main side bars, one for the grid page and another for the content pages (because it didn’t make much sense to have the content taking up 3/4 of the page and then have the sidebar squished up to the side). That went down without a hitch and then I adjusted the footer and made it a small menu.

I then added a footer widget area which would be displayed on every single page, and the last addition was a meta area at the bottom of the page.

Week 3 Of Attachment

Scrap everything and start over, seems harsh but the road I started on was completely out of my skills and probably would have me screaming and hoping mad at the world

Day 1

I decided to scrap the idea of coding with LESS / CSS and redid the entire structure of the site. I realized that I didn’t have enough time to learn to use the preprocessor coding style and complete the website without going crazy or giving up sleep altogether. I found two WordPress themes, Superhero and Sidekick and decided to combine them together along with a grid layout.

At the end of the day most of the coding was complete and I basically had to copy the styling and sync it with bootstrap and then that was complete.

Day 2

I finished up the coding and started work on the CSS, because I was using a theme most of it was copy/paste and edit to suit what I wanted. I decided to start work on the homepage as it was a grid layout and most of the code would be similar for the category pages.

I managed to get the grid layout up and running using a plugin know as masonry; which was the easiest thing to implement, my next problem was to resize the size of the elements because I kept getting a bug which would only allow 3 of the grids to be inline.

I left that alone and worked on the navigation, I just had to rename the class elements and changed the colors to match the color scheme, and that was finished.

Day 3

I decided to work on the single pages today so that I could get down to styling the sidebar, I had the layout up and running and had adjusted the page widths as I was creating the website for devices with large screens (>1200px width) there was a bit of awkward spacing but nothing to major, I had to fix the comments area also because I was using the coding from the original tutorial and it was causing some positioning and spacing problems.

Day 4

The footer area was my work for today as I wanted to get the layout completed so that by next week I had all the styling completed. The footer was relatively easy as all the styling for it was already present and I didn’t have to add much to it. just change the colors around and that was finished.

Day 5

I decided to take a break from designing and just play a game of Halo to relax, I finished the first level in no time as I had the setting on Normal (I want to relax and not go crazy screaming at the screen)

I even watched a couple of movies and slept for a bit, before I opened up Virtual DJ and did a small set.

Week 2 Of Attachment

My roughest week to date and I haven’t even started coding for WordPress, I just want to finish this, but finish it correctly

Day 1

We had decided as a group to use the labs at school to do our work as some of us had very slow computers or they were shared so we wouldn’t have them all to ourselves for extended periods. I left my computer at home, as I was planning to do most of my work on the computers and then save to my flash drive. Unfortunately when I started using the computer it was running Vista (which everyone hates because it slows down your computer) and a lot of their software was outdated which made it even worse.

I showed the members the finished designs as I had done up two versions, and I personally liked the second version but they loved the first one, and so did the client, so I decided to go ahead with the first version.

I did a minor bit of coding before the tiredness started to hit me and I had to call it quits for the day.

Day 2

A few of the members were meeting with the client to showcase their designs and collect more information that they can add in, I had just started coding and it didn’t make much sense to showcase an unstyled html page, as the client would think I don’t know what I am doing. I went to school instead and met up with one of the group members who also decided not to go up.

I completed the html markup on all of my pages in no time and it was now time for styling the site (the headache of all web designers), but I decided to leave it for the next day as I really didn’t want to be pulling out my hair on a Wednesday.

Day 3

I worked from home today, as the lab was in use and I took the time to get refreshed with CSS, by following a tutorial on Webdesigntuts+ and WPtuts+ that showed the creation of a WordPress theme from Photoshop to HTML / CSS and then to WordPress, and there was when all the screaming and pulling out of hair began, as the guy was using a CSS preprocessor named LESS which seemed simple enough, but I found it difficult to implement it, and get it up and running and wound up being frustrated and eventually giving up on it for the day.

Day 4

Finally the weekend is here and I am overjoyed, I got up early and did a bit of work using LESS and finally got it working properly and started following along again with the author. We were meeting at school again today, and I was trying to complete as much as possible because to keep the June 7th deadline we had to start coding  for WordPress on Monday.

I decided to follow the author and use twitter’s bootstrap as it helped with element aligning and had the support for responsive web design, which I really wanted to do.

The layout and navigation were more or less completed and I still had to style them as the nav bar would be fixed (meaning that as you scroll down the page it would stay at the top and not disappear)

I gave up on the tutorials and decided to look at the coding and layouts of similar sites and use their coding to complete it.

Day 5 (Saturday)

I decided to do a bit of work on the site today as well to meet the Monday deadline and was planning to work tomorrow as well but decided against it. I worked on the single post page as completing that would also give me the styling for the full width pages and pages with sidebars.

I still had the grid layout to do and the featured image slider but I wasn’t too worried as I knew that I could do it, and I was determined to do it.

Here are your previews of the designs, I decided to go with the second design after day 3 of coding when I met a problem with the browser height, which caused part of the navigation to be omitted.

So a lot of you think I have practically given up on blogging, well I haven’t and a fresh update of blog posts will be coming tomorrow, my sleeping schedules have finally been normalized so they will be up early in the morning, also I will be giving you a sneak preview of the theme that I am currently coding for the unnamed company, I will be removing the logos and anything that can give you any clues.

That’s all I have to say for now as coding drains all of your energy,
